This beautiful riverside walk is the British summer must-do

A beautiful riverside walk through the mountainous landscape of North Wales has been named one of the best walks to do this summer, according to new research. Aberglaslyn in Snowdonia came first in a list of the most popular walks in Britain.

In second place is Gaping Gill in the Yorkshire Dales, home to one of the largest underground cave chambers in Britain. In third place comes Stac Pollaidh, a mountain in the northwestern highlands of Scotland.

Helvellyn – the third highest mountain in the Lake District – and High Cup Nick in Cumbria completed the top five. The list was compiled by experts from Provacan, who ranked the most popular hiking spots based on the number of Google searches over the past year.

With summer just around the corner, many will be planning country walks in the coming months. Walking is not only good for our physical health, but also for our mental health, with several benefits including reducing anxiety, improving mood and improving overall mental health.

Aberglaslyn topped the list with a 559 percent increase in Google searches. The route takes you through a gorge, next to the Glaslyn River and passes the pretty village of Beddgelert. Along the way it passes the calm waters of Llyn Dinas, as well as the old copper mines of Sygun and Cwm Bychan.

Gaping Gill followed closely with an increase of 431 percent. The cave system is only open to the public during open weeks in May and August, but there are many hiking trails nearby.

A local walk to Greater Manchester that made the top ten is Mam Tor in the Peak District, which saw a 26 per cent increase in Google searches. The summit offers beautiful views of the surrounding area and is easily accessible from Edale train station.
