UN Security Council convenes meeting on Afghanistan

The United Nations Security Council has announced plans to hold a meeting on Afghanistan, its monthly report shows. The session will feature speeches by Roza Otunbayeva, head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, and member of Afghan civil society.

Martin Griffiths, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, will also present a report on the relief efforts to Afghanistan, as mandated by Security Council Resolution 2615.

Although the exact date of the meeting has not yet been set, the agenda will include a vote on draft sanctions against Al Qaeda and ISIS.

This meeting takes place as the UN prepares for the third Doha conference on Afghanistan, which will take place at the end of June, with the participation of special representatives from several countries.
