Lone Star College is ready to help you get out of the financial aid maze

HOUSTON, TX — Dealing with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) may feel like you’re stuck in Houston traffic, but there’s good news. Lone Star College has experts on hand to help you get out of the FAFSA delay and get your education back on track.

“There is a lot of uncertainty among high school students about where they will be able to attend school this fall, as they will not receive financial offers until early to mid-July,” said Mario K. Castillo, JD, LSC chancellor. “That makes it difficult for students to properly draw up a four-year plan that they want to start in August.”

The benefits of starting at a community college are well known. Students take the same core classes at less than one-third the cost. Additionally, community colleges are known to be career-oriented, with smaller class sizes leading to more personal attention.

“Lone Star College has financial aid specialists available to help those affected by the slowdown and can find many ways to pay for their education, including grants, scholarships, work-study programs and even advance bookings for qualified students,” said Castillo. “Lone Star College also offers an excellent pathway to college with advisors who can ensure credits transfer toward completion of a bachelor’s degree.”

In addition to providing financial assistance, LSC features the CARE for Completion program that ensures every student has access to food, housing, clothing, employment, mental health care and academic support resources.

According to statistics from StudentAid.Gov, estimated completion rates of applications for the 2024/2025 FAFSA academic cycle through May 17, 2024 are down 10 – 20%, including Aldine, Conroe, Cypress-Fairbanks, Humble and Tomball ISDs, all located within the LSC service area.

More and more of today’s students are making the smart choice by enrolling at Lone Star College for a quality education that won’t break the bank. Visit LoneStar.edu/Financial-Help and boost your education.
