How to talk to your kids about climate change

Abi Thomas recommends ways parents can talk to their children about the environment without invoking overwhelming fear

Teach children about smarter, more ecological choices

A friend recently shared a condolence card, written by one of her children, to a neighbor whose father had passed away. In charming primary school handwriting, decorated with hearts, it reads: “Dear Barry, Lorraine, Lea and Jamie, I am so sorry for what happened to Jack. Try to cheer up and forget about it. Love from Lewis, Lawrence, Alice and Kate.”

When we look at the bare facts about climate change, we should all be shocked, but if we’re honest, most of us are taking a ‘get up and forget’ approach. Our children are not so easily fooled.
