T-Mobile Launches Backup Home Internet Service So You’re Always Online for $20 a Month

Do you always have to make sure you are online? Do you work from home and are worried about internet outages costing you at work? Now, starting at just $20 per month for select T-Mobile customers, you can get a backup Home Internet plan to stay connected via T-Mobile’s 5G network.

The service costs $30 per month with AutoPay, but if you have a qualifying T-Mobile voice line you can get the service for just $20 per month with Autoplay. With this service you get up to 130 GB of 5G data every month.

The service isn’t intended to be your primary internet, but seems to be aimed at customers who work from home and want to ensure they’re always online.

This is how T-Mobile describes this service:

  • 130 GB 5G data per month. Enough to keep an average household connected to Wi-Fi for up to seven days a month if the primary internet connection goes down.
  • A 5G gateway included at no extra cost. There are NO monthly equipment costs with T-Mobile! Home Internet Backup customers get all the equipment they need without paying a cent more.
  • Quick and easy installation. Go from box to browsing in 15 minutes or less with a simple self-install process. And when that primary connection drops, you can quickly switch to the T-Mobile Wi-Fi signal for connectivity.


During congestion, customers on these plans may find that speeds are slower than other customers, and speeds are even slower if they use >1.2 TB/month due to data priority. After 130 GB monthly data allocation, speeds up to 600 Kbps. Not available in all areas. $35 device connection fee due at sale. Regulatory fees included in the monthly price for qualified accounts.
