Jamshedpur, June 5: Tata Steel today celebrated World Environment Day by organizing various activities including plantation activities at various locations and rejuvenation of a water body in the ISWP area, reiterating its commitment towards a sustainable future.

While plantation drives were organized at various places including CRM Bara, Jamshedpur Works, near Tata Main Hospital Nursing Home, Neem Bagh, a party was organized at Beldih Club in the evening to mark this important occasion.

More than 1,000 saplings were planted by dignitaries in various areas of Jamshedpur, while the rejuvenation of the water body in the ISWP area, spread over 0.5 hectares, has created a water storage capacity of two million litres. A further 0.25 hectares will be developed as a recreational area with lawn and saplings. The efforts are part of Tata Steel’s sustainability journey by bringing more land under green cover and creating greater water retention capacity through rejuvenation of water bodies, which were previously ignored.

In addition, a painting and presentation competition for students on environmental themes, online webinars, online quizzes, emoji pictionary, riddles and word puzzles for Tata Steel employees were also organized on the intranet.

The theme for World Environment Day 2024 is ‘land restoration, desertification and drought resilience’. Land restoration is critical for the protection and revival of ecosystems and 2021-2030 is considered the UN Decade for Ecosystem Restoration. In line with this theme, Tata Steel yesterday (June 5, 2024) celebrated World Environment Day, across its locations including mines, factories, marketing and sales office locations. Multiple stakeholders were involved in both online and on-ground activities.
