Anne-Marie explains how fear almost made her quit music – Music News

Anne-Marie opens up about her struggle with anxiety and how it almost drove her to give up her music career.

The 33-year-old Rockabye singer has been in the spotlight since the release of her debut single in 2015 and has since had 11 top 20 hits and three top 3 albums to her name.

But the star says her confidence has been damaged by the huge public profile she has received, and she has even considered hanging up her microphone for good.

The former The Voice judge told Metro.co.uk: “I’ve always suffered from anxiety and people looking at me, which is quite strange in this industry because people are looking at your face. Then lockdown happened.

“I think it would either make me say, ‘You know what, I can’t do this anymore. I’m not going to do it anymore,’ or it would make me realize that I have to do it. Luckily it did the latter and it pushed me to keep doing it, because music just makes me happy.”

Anne-Marie was also able to ask other music stars for advice, including Ed Sheeran, with whom she toured in 2017.

She credits the Lego House singer for her top tip, recalling: “I remember him saying keep in touch with your parents because when you’re on the road you can get lost. I always keep that in the back of my mind.”
