NMC warns of misleading new reports from medical colleges

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has warned the public and stakeholders against misleading news reports regarding the approval of new medical colleges for the academic year 2024-2025 in a recent notice on its official website.

The move came after some media outlets falsely claimed that the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) had completed approvals for 113 applications to establish new medical schools.

“With regard to the MARB public notice dated 6th July 2024, it is noted that fake news has been published/broadcast in print/electronic media stating that the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) in its final decision has accepted 113 applications for establishment of new medical colleges for the academic year 2024-25. It is clarified that the NMC in its public notice dated 6th July 2024 has only published the list of applications on which the final decisions have been taken by the MARB. The final decision does not mean that all the 113 applications have been accepted. The decision may be approved or rejected. Such decisions have already been communicated to the medical institutions concerned. The decisions will be uploaded on the NMC website in due course,” the letter issued by NMC on 8th July stated.

These decisions have also been communicated to the relevant medical institutions.
