Greystar has appointed leading UK contractor – HG Construction – as main contractor for One Medlock Street, the Manchester-based purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) project.

HG Construction will execute the concrete skeleton and pile driving internally. Completion is scheduled for 2028.

One Medlock Street will deliver 1,014 high-quality student rooms across 37 floors, with amenities on the ground, first, eleventh and thirty-seventh floors to promote the health and wellbeing of residents.

The plan will deliver a total of 1,200m² of amenities for residents, including a gym, yoga studio, quiet study areas, meeting rooms, cinema rooms, communal lounges and games rooms.

The development will feature sustainable features including a green living roof, solar panels and sustainable materials. Plans also include an 11-storey public art installation across 30 prefabricated panels.

Situated in the Deansgate regeneration area, One Medlock Street is an 11-minute walk from Manchester Metropolitan University. The development is also a 20-minute walk from both the Main and North Campuses of The University of Manchester – two of the UK’s most populous universities.

“This is an exciting scheme that will make a significant contribution to the transformation of this area and help to meet the high and growing demand for prime student accommodation in the Manchester area. With a strong track record of delivering high-quality PBSA projects across the UK, we are delighted to be working with Greystar on this ground-breaking Manchester scheme. We look forward to getting to know the local area and maximising opportunities for local employment and positive community engagement during the construction of this project.”

In June, Greystar celebrated the structural completion of its PBSA scheme at Wembley with a topping-out ceremony hosted by construction partners McAleer & Rushe. The occasion was attended by senior representatives from Brent Council and the Greater London Authority.

Canvas Wembley has 770 student beds. Facilities include two lounges, co-working spaces, a café, activity room, library, gym, yoga studio and private dining areas.

Situated within the North East Lands development and close to the iconic Wembley Stadium, the site forms part of a 12-acre precinct which will deliver 2,347 residential units of varying tenure alongside the biodiverse 7-acre Union Park. Wembley Park is now an established neighbourhood and an increasingly popular area for students to live.
